West Church Street

Meet Baylee Schmitt! We actually found Baylee during stream and were delighted to see her work on recreating her childhood home from memory - via crochet! Also excited to include a fiber artist ... well artist!

Baylee created this installation as her thesis and did so, in part, because it was something she could commit to and obsess over, honestly pretty necessary for large artistic endeavors, but really connects well with the fiber arts community and feminism as a whole, something Baylee is also very passionate about! We focused on one part, but you can see the entire work  in person at Hiestand Galleries at Miami University in Oxford, OH from April 20th - 27th!

A Note From Ashley - I really love how the scenes in West Church Street come together to make a massive dimensional piece from traditionally flat crochet pieces of cloth. The fact that they also all have their ends exposes reminds us that our memories and history are never fully finished, continuing to grow and thrive in spite of being unpolished.
