Wheel of Fortune
$6.00Spin, spin, spin the wheel! Where will she land? Who can know? That's right, May's card is the Wheel of Fortune.
In the typical versions of the Wheel of Fortune, there lies a giant wheel at the center of the card, covered with symbols. Different creatures surround the wheel: an angel, eagle, bull, and lion. Purportedly, they represent the four fixed signs of the Zodiac (Aquarius, Scorpio, Taurus and Leo). Each of the animals are adorned with wings and is holding a book. There is a snake descending from the top of the card towards the bottom (towards the material world, perhaps?) and on the wheel itself is a sphinx at the top, and what appears to be some sort of devil at the bottom. As they are on a wheel, they are rotating in a cycle - as one comes up, the other goes down.
The main theme of this card is, naturally, cycles. The Wheel of Fortune comes down to decisive moments, luck, fortune (of course), fate, changes (good or bad), the fleeting nature of control. What must go up must come down, or maybe what goes around comes around? Life is made of good times and bad, but the cycle is not one that we can control.
Upright, the Wheel of Fortune is here to inform you that there are things outside of human control at work here. The outcome you are looking for doesn't seem to necessarily be something in your hands. You may find yourself at the top or bottom, but no matter what the outcome is, it may not last for very long, as wheel is always turning.
Reversed... misfortunate has been following you, hasn't it? The good news is that it's not personal, at least. Your fate is always in motion, and there is comfort that as the wheel moves, you'll be okay soon. However, you shouldn't cling to the illusion of control! Perhaps a reversed Wheel of Fortune is a call to let go. Clinging harder can only bring more suffering.
Ultimately, the Wheel of Fortune wants you to recognize you that your fate isn't always about you. You'll get good in this life, but you'll always get bad, and sometimes the outcome has nothing to do with what you do, but instead forces beyond your control. Change is inevitable, so you might as well embrace it!
Our Wheel of Fortune yarn is a blend of gold and browns, perhaps meant to evoke the warm tones of your spinning wheel.
