Rock House

Our deepest green in the fade is Rock House and it comes with one of my personal favorite stories about Hocking Hills. Where there’s a secluded area, there’s people to carve their names into … well, whatever they can. The walls and floor of Rock House are covered in at least 100 of years of “literary litter,” my new favorite phrase for graffiti (thanks ExploreHockingHills.com!). Above one of the entrances, you’ll find the abbreviation "I.T.F.B.R.B.A.R. - I.T.F.F.A.W.M.T.A.W," which we obviously all know stands for - “In the fall, Buck Run bananas are ripe - In the frosty fall a wise man takes a wife.” What the hell is a buck run banana? Turns out it’s a paw paw! One of our friends popped in and let us know that the paw paws drop around the same time that the bucks start their territorial behavior and that might be where the name comes from!
