June '25 YOTM: Camp Mom
$30.00It’s June! June is a month of Pride, of weddings, of Best Friends Day, and also - SUMMER CAMP.
Well, if you’re smart enough to set a calendar alert and alarm for the right day in February to book your summer sessions for your seven year old, at least. Guess who was not? That’s right! Me! (Kelley!)
Mixing up the days for when Columbus Rec & Parks summer camp registration meant that my Hunger Games with other parents of school-aged kids was more like… where can I find the scraps? How can I scrounge up enough childcare for the summer where I don’t have to quit my job (now that my spouse is working again)? Well, we mostly managed to do it! Our kid has three weeks in Cincinnati to spend with his grandparents (doing some camps down there), some through Columbus Rec, some through other means of camp, and then some weeks… he’s just at the shop! Enter Camp Mom.
Much to the disappointment of some of my friends, Camp Mom is not camp FOR moms, but instead camp where Mom is the counselor and assigner of tasks. For the first week of June, my son was a semi-official staffer of Dye Mad Yarns, complete with a name tag (subheading “Lego Legend”) and a disdain for washing All of the Yarn. The main perk he got to do was pick out the colors for what he thought represented Camp Mom. You have the result of his choices in your hand. :)
This isn’t the first time Arthur has designed a color way for us! He designed a color for us waaaay back in April 2021. He does not remember this (to be fair, he was about three and a half then). While lots of things have changed in the last four years, his love of specifically the color cyan has not.
