June '26 YOTM: Dead Man Walking

June 2026's color is DEAD MAN WALKING, dyed by our newest staffer, Kristin.

As a child, we regularly watched the Weather Channel (local on the 8s!) and my parents lived through the 1974 F5 Xenia tornado. On May 27, 2019 another tornado hit my hometown and my parents’ shed fell victim to this F3 tornado. (They are fine, don’t worry!)

This month’s Skein Society is based on my fascination with and love of Midwestern weather. If you have been in or near severe weather, you probably recognize the eerie green glow of tornado skies. I tried to capture this in this month’s Skein Society color, Dead Man Walking, which is named after the F5 tornado that hit Jarrell, TX on May 27, 1997. 

Just like a tornado, the green will glow (if placed under a UV light/blacklight).
