May '25 YOTM: Hard to Kill

by Dye Mad Yarns

$30.00

We looked at the catalogue for 2025’s colors of Chester’s Skein Society so far and it’s been… a lot of pink and a lot of things to grow? Pickles! Succulents! Chaos Garden! Anyway, we decided to continue at least part of the theme but mix it up with the colors. This is also our first color dyed by Allie, who is a new addition our team (and has taken my dye class!!! So training is going well and she has the fundamentals and it’s very fun!!)!!!

Our theme this month is dandelions - there’s been a lot of rain this spring season, which is ideal weather for dandelions so they have been ABUNDANT. I don’t know about you, but I personally love dandelions. They’re also almost entirely edible - you can fry the blossoms, make a pesto from the greens or eat them in a salad, the roots can be roasted and used as a coffee substitute (not in caffeine but in flavor), you can make a wine and jelly from the flowers. They have medicinal properties. They improve a hard soil, they’re a bright cheery flower for pollinators, they’re wishes for a child (or a whimsical adult). The much maligned garden weed is a spot of hard-to-kill whimsy. We are passionate defenders of the dandelion in the Dye Mad house and as such, our May 2025 color is called “Hard to Kill” - we should all resolve to be as stubborn as the dandelion!
