Montana Cudu Corn is not only beautiful in appearance, but is connected to the rich history of the American Indigenous peoples. The original variety of Cudai corn was cultivated by several tribes and sacred, symbolizing a connection to the earth, it's ability to grow close together like a community and it's importance for survival. in 1958, a sample of seeds was given to the USDA by the Will Company, but later had degraded, suspected to have been cross bred from the original. Ed Schultz revived the variety by breeding it with another white corn type and the Montana Cudu that we have today is a tribute the original. It's soft yellow in color with blue and purple spots reminiscent of eagle wings.
