September '22 YOTM: Hønsestrikk
$30.00September's theme is color work OR more specifically HONSENSTRIKK (hen knitting).
Hønsestrikk, or hen knitting, is a type of narrative feminist knitting that emerged in Denmark during the 1970s. Knitters created sweaters using bright colors, unconventional techniques, and imagery with narratives about the person intending to wear it. Hønsestrikk is still executed by knitters today, incorporating contemporary political and social issues.
This month's extra was a poster was designed by Fiona Avocado (@fiona_avocado), a formerly-Athens-based-now-Pittsburgh-based visual artist. Fiona does some incredible printing work, a lot of which is very political. I am happy to count them among the fiber artists, too! You can find a lot of their work on Instagram, and you can also buy prints and original works on their site fionavacado.com.
