Temperance

The last card in our deck for 2024 is Temperance, representing the very demure 🤨... Sagittarius!

The depiction of Temperance shows a large winged angel with two cups, pouring water between the two cups. The angel wears a blue robe with a triangle and a square and is standing in a river, with one foot on a rock and one foot in the water. In the background, there is a winding path up to a mountain range and above the mountains hovers a golden crown encased in a glowing light.

Last month's card of Death was about transformation, rebirth and letting go of the past. Temperance is not unlike Justice - it's about balance. It wants you to take the middling path and accommodate all perspectives. In a lot of ways, the tarot cards associated with the zodiac signs can be... call outs of those signs. Sagittarius is known as a loud, brash, highly opinionated sign who often acts before they think and Temperance tells you that now is not the time to be controversial!

Pulling Temperance upright is about balance, moderation, patience and purpose. This card is about remaining calm when things are frantic. Maintain an even temperament and manage your emotions. This is a card about blending and alchemy, which I think makes sense alongside its representative of Sagittarius, but it can be a reflection of a blended family, an artist using mixed media, a chef getting creative with ingredients...

Reversed, Temperance can be an invitation to reign in your excesses (or maybe a warning! Remember - the card following Temperance is the Devil, so learn your lessons early!) Sagittarius season coincides with the season of overindulgence, so if you've been overeating, over drinking, over spending, arguing with your loved ones... the reversed card is a little flag for you!

Ultimately, Temperance is a reminder that everything is in moderation (...including moderation).

Our Temperance yarn is a soft peach into a pastel pink into a purple.
