The Chariot

The next card in our deck is the Chariot, representing Cancer!

Typically, the Chariot has a warrior standing inside a chariot. He wears armor decorated with crescent moons (representing what is coming into being), a tunic with a square (the strength of will) and other alchemical symbols (spiritual transformation). The laurel and star crown signals victory, success and spiritual evolution. Although he appears to be driving the chariot, the charioteer holds no reins – just a wand like The Magician’s – symbolizing that he controls through the strength of his will and mind.

Last month's Lovers challenged you to make your own choices, and the Chariot doubles down encouraging you to move forward boldly, with action. You have discovered how to make decisions in alignment with your values with the Lovers card, and now you are taking action on those decisions. Upright, this card is about control, willpower, success, action, and determination. Reversed, it's about self-discipline, opposition, and the lack of a direction.

Pulling the Chariot card upright should be taken as a sign of encouragement - you have set your objectives, and now it's time to charge forward with dedication to achieve them. With commitment, determination, and ambition, you will succeed in your goals. This is not a passive card! It is not only a green light to move ahead, but a push in the direction of moving past any obstacles in your way that may impede your progress.

(in a more literal sense, it could also signal travel! But we're talking in the potential of the card as it relates to the sign Cancer!)

Reversed, this is a card that would uhh, well, tell you to put it in reverse. Maybe you've been beating your head against the wall, trying to make progress, trying to make forward. The Chariot reversed is a sign that maybe you should back off or even change directions entirely. Ooorrr maybe you're not feeling the motivation to do this like you once did... Regardless, if something isn't moving forward the way you expected or anticipated, it might be worth it to sit back and re-evaluate - why is this harder than it should be? Why don't I have the enthusiasm for this project like I once did? It could be that maybe the Chariot reversed is telling you to re-focus. Have you gotten too into the weeds, and it's time to focus on the bigger picture?

Ultimately, The Chariot card, representative of watery Cancer, is all about willpower, action, and determination. It is a card that centers itself on your focus and control.

Our Chariot yarn is giving victory - gold and blurple play together for also something of a starry night vibe.
