The Lovers

The next card in our deck is the Lovers, representing Gemini!

Typically, the Lovers card depicts a naked man and woman standing beneath an angel, who represents both physical and emotional healing. The angel blesses the man and woman and reminds them of their union with the Divine. There is the snake from the garden of Eden behind the woman, and twelve flames behind the man (representing the 12 Zodiac signs perhaps?). The man looks to the woman, who watches the angel, showing the path of the conscious to the subconscious to the super-conscious, or from physical desire to emotional needs to spiritual concerns.

Our individual decks at the shop vary: Bryce (Rust Belt Arcana) has a pair of White Ibises touching beaks (honestly, kind of terrifying), Kelley (Over the Garden Wall/Stitcher's Tarot) has Miss Langtree and Jimmy overseen by the Queen of the Clouds and two hands pierced by a knitting needle, Chelsea (Weird Cat Tarot) has blue cat being cuddled by a blue and yellow cat, with a pink & yellow sun above, and Ashley (Yarn Tarot) has fairly traditional card where the sun behind the angel appears to be a yarn ball.

Last month's Hierophant wanted you to learn the principles of discovery, and now the Lovers are challenging you to make your own choices. Upright, this card is about choices, harmony, relationships, love, unity, and values alignment. Reversed, it can be focus on self-love, a warning of disharmony, misalignment of values, detachment, or perhaps imbalance.

Pulling the Lovers card upright, in its most straightforward, represents conscious connections and meaningful relationships. While it typically refers to a romantic tie (naturally), it can represent a familial relationship or close friendship where respect, compassion, communication, and love flow. It is a card that is about open communication and raw honesty, the naked truth if you will.

Maybe you don't current have a love connection in your life - the Lovers on a personal level depicts getting clear about your values and beliefs. You have the structure, you have the knowledge of those before you, so with that in the back of your head, what choices are you going to make for yourself? What do you stand for? What is your philosophy? What is and is not essential to you as you make your way in this world? The Lovers card is all about choice, and to make good choices, you need to know who you are, what you believe, and how to be true to yourself. Not all decisions will be easy, but you must choose love - for yourself, for others, for the universe.

The Lovers is pure love and harmony, so what does that mean reversed? Disharmony, sure, but it seems to be about being out of sync with those around you. Are you not on the same page? No longer aligned with your values? Perhaps the feeling of love isn't necessarily mutual? It's best to focus on why you have this person in your life. it's possible that the moment will pass, and what's needed is compassion and communication. It's possible you've grown apart. Ultimately, honor yourself and do what is best for you both. It could also be a reflection of self-love and respect. Are you respecting the choices you're making for yourself? Maybe you're facing a hard choice with big consequences. Are you afraid or avoiding making a decision based on your values? What might be the outcomes of that?

Ultimately, The Lovers card, representative of airy Gemini, is all about choice, and to make good choices, you need to know who you are, what you believe, and how to be true to yourself. Not all decisions will be easy, but you must choose love - for yourself, for others, for the universe.

Our Lovers yarn is giving cotton candy - pink and baby blue, with speckles of spearmint and buttercup.
