The Hanged Man
$6.00A color way to bring in this heat of June - the Hanged Man.Â
The Hanged Man card typically displays a man hung upside down, his legs in a figure four pose, suspended from a T-shaped cross made of living wood. His face is calm and serene (perhaps he made the choice to be here) with a halo around his head. His arms are bent, with hands held behind his back, forming an inverted triangle.Â
I once asked a witch I know why I kept pulling the Hanged Man card in a reading and she said yeah, activists and organizers pull this one when they're stuck in burn out. It's the martyr card, after all! (honestly, I felt embarrassed and ending up quitting that job later than year, whoops)
Upright, this is a card for pause: what do you have going on? Is there a lack of direction, perspective? Uncertainty? Are you being self-sacrificing? Have you (perhaps unnecessarily) made a martyr of yourself for something? Sometimes you have to put everything on hold before you take the next step (and if you don't do it, maybe the universe will do it for you)! These pauses can be voluntary or involuntary, but regardless, they will happen and it's probably in your best interest to try and better attune yourself to when they need to happen. For us here at Dye Mad, it's probably an auspicious card to pull in June. We've run ourselves ragged, and it's time for a break so that we can keep going hard later in the summer and as we return to show season in September! Remember, if you don't take a break, your body will make you take a break, so if you pull this card, pay attention and slow down (plus, it's hot outside).
Reversed, this card may be pointing out that you know you need to take a break and are resisting it. Bad idea, bestie!! Stop trying to distract yourself from the issue that actually needs your attention! Stop and rest before it's too late (not that I can say anything from experience or anything...)! Or maybe you're not resisting, but you're delayed. Are you stalling? Or are you looking for the go-ahead on something? Or are you feeling apathetic about something and avoiding what you think you're supposed to do? The Hanged Man reversed might be the card to tell you that it's okay to start moving again (or maybe even moving on!)... provided you're ready and have taken the time to prepare!!Â
Ultimately, the Hanged Man is a card that wants you to get a fresh perspective. Are you having a hard time falling asleep? Maybe it's as simple as putting your head at the end of the bed and seeing what happens. Take some time to reflect on what you're doing and how you got here and what moving forward would look like.Â
Our Hanged Man is a blend of oranges/reds with a finish of blue speckles.Â
